Coming Home to the Workbench

After a long, unplanned pause, I’m back at the workbench—and it feels like coming home.

Sometimes life reroutes us. For a while, I stepped away from woodworking, weighed down by fatigue, uncertainty, and a deep need to rest. But the wood waited. So did the stories.

Lately, I’ve been rebuilding—not just my shop, but myself. I’ve reorganized my space, added some new machines, and finally finished a built-in project for friends (a tall cabinet and a cozy banquette). That project reminded me of what I love… and what I don’t. Spoiler: I don’t want to build furniture for other people’s kitchens. I want to make heirlooms. Pieces with soul. Work that whispers, I was made just for you.

I’ve also been diving into a soulful marketing course that’s helped me reconnect with why I started KnotWright Woodworking in the first place. Not to get rich. Not to mass-produce. But to create things that carry meaning—to shape wood into objects that honor the trees they came from, and the people who will keep them next.

So here I am. Back in the shop. Covered in sawdust. And happier for it.

I’ve posted a couple new pieces for sale (finally - see above!) And I’ll be sharing more soon—including glimpses of what’s next.

Here’s a new mulberry bowl in the works…firs the tree broke and fell in a windstorm, now it is breaking as it dries (not unexpected). So, lets see what kind of magic can be interjected as it continues to shape itself in anticipation of its final turning!

Thanks for waiting!
