Behind the Scenes at KnotWright: Learning to Share the Soul of the Work
August 2025
For years, the hum of a lathe, the scent of freshly cut wood, and the quiet rhythm of turning have filled the days in my shop. But if you’ve been following along and wondering why there’s been a pause in the sawdust… I want to bring you behind the scenes.
This past season, I’ve been learning something entirely new:
how to share the soul of the work digitally.
The truth is, crafting a piece of wood into something useful and beautiful comes naturally to me.
But crafting a one-minute video? Lining it up to music, learning the flow of reels, editing every beat and transition in an app like CapCut? That’s been a whole new kind of challenge.
And I’ve loved it.
Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve created two reels that speak to different branches of my creative tree:
• One celebrates the soulful transformation of redwood into a hand-turned bowl—part of the ongoing work at KnotWright Woodworking.
• The other showcases designs from KnotWright Studio, where I’ve been exploring AI-powered art and turning it into wearable expressions: shirts, prints, journals, and more.
Both reels come from the same place:
a desire to invite others into this life I’ve built from imagination and wood grain.
A life where stories are carved, not just told.
A life where creativity is not a side note—it is the point.
⸻
So why the reels?
Why the shift in rhythm?
Because I want to grow. Sustain. Expand.
Because I’m newly retired from flying, and I believe the best part of my creative life is still unfolding.
Because I want to keep turning flutes from forgotten beams and designing shirts that make people pause and smile.
But to do that, I need to build a bridge—between me and you, and between all of us who believe that beauty, craft, and purpose still matter in this fast-scrolling world.
If you’ve ever watched a reel of mine, or admired a bowl, or worn one of my shirts—thank you.
You’re helping keep this work alive.
⸻
Here’s how you can help even more:
• Watch the reels. Like them. Comment. Save and share if they speak to you. Every interaction helps them reach more kindred spirits.
• Follow me on Instagram, Facebook, and Etsy.
• Visit the shops:
• KnotWright Studio for art, apparel, and play.
• KnotWright Woodworking for soulful, useful heirlooms.
⸻
And if you’ve been enjoying these blog posts—hold on. Because the next one is very close to my heart.
It’s the story of a flute…
not yet made, but long in the becoming.
A sacred story carved from the brace of an 1800s piano—one that will soon sing again.
This is the season where everything I’ve made…
begins to speak.
And I hope you’ll be there to listen.
